How to Design a Life That Aligns with Your Values
Are you living someone else’s life?
My friends,
I remember a time, years ago, when I looked at my life and felt a quiet sense of unease. On the surface, everything was fine. I was successful, providing for my family, and checking all the right boxes. But deep down, something felt… off. It was like I was wearing a suit that was expertly tailored but belonged to someone else. My daily actions were not in harmony with my deepest-held beliefs.
This feeling of misalignment is one of the most common struggles I see in the gifted leaders and professionals I mentor. They have built successful careers, but they have drifted, slowly and unintentionally, from the values that once anchored them.
Designing a life that aligns with your values is not about blowing everything up. It is about a gentle but firm course correction. It is about building a house on a foundation of rock, not sand. Your values are that rock.
Before you can have a vision or a purpose, you must know what you stand for. What are the non-negotiable principles that guide your heart? For me, those are Faith, Family, and Service. Every major decision I make is filtered through those three words.
When your actions align with your values, you experience a profound sense of peace, even amidst chaos. You are no longer living someone else’s life; you are living the life you were created for.
Your First Step Back to Alignment:
Take a moment today. Don’t overthink it. Write down the first three words that come to mind when you ask yourself: “What values are most important to me?”
These three words are the beginning of your foundation. Tomorrow, we will explore why your purpose doesn’t need to be grand to be meaningful.
