The comeback starts with one honest sentence

I disappeared.

My last Rekindle Press email was September 17. I called it “The drift nobody sees.”

Then I drifted again.

Not because I stopped caring. Not because I ran out of things to say. I drifted because the old pattern is still familiar: start with conviction, build some momentum, then let one interruption become a week, and one week become silence.

That is how drift works.

It rarely announces itself. There is no alarm. No dramatic failure. You simply stop doing the thing that mattered, while telling yourself you will get back to it soon.

And then one morning, you realize you have been away longer than you intended.

That morning came for me today.

So this is not a polished return. It is a comeback post.

I am back in the groove.

Not because I suddenly became more disciplined. Not because I found a better system. I am back because I remembered something I wrote in that September email:

The seed of greater benefit is buried in the thing you keep walking away from.

Rekindle Press is one of those things for me.

It is where I write about the second act. About the ideas we carry for years. About the businesses, projects, and callings we keep postponing because the mortgage is real, the responsibilities are real, and starting over at our age feels expensive.

But there is another cost too.

Waking up years from now and realizing you kept waiting for the perfect season to begin.

I do not want that for me. And I do not want it for you.

So I am not going to make a grand promise about never drifting again. I am going to make a smaller promise:

I will return.

When I miss a week, I will not turn one missed issue into a missing season. When I lose the thread, I will pick it up again. When the old voice says, “You already broke the streak,” I will answer, “Then start a new one.”

That is the work of a second act.

Not becoming a different person overnight.

Coming home to the person you were becoming before you walked away.

If you have been away from something that matters to you, let this be your permission to return without making a speech about the absence.

Open the document. Make the call. Write the first paragraph. Take the smallest step that puts you back in contact with the thing you said mattered.

And if you want, reply to this email with one word:

Returning.

I would like to know what you are coming back to.

Talk soon,

Winston
